BE A MILLIONAIRE OF KINDNESS, NOT CASH

Are you short on cash but big on kindness? More and more of us are learning that we don't need to be millionaires in order to make a difference in the world. By Ben Arogundade.

GOOD LEARNING FOR GIRLS: Pakistani schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai showed the power of positive, cashless activism when she defied the Taliban after they shot her in 2012 for supporting education for females.

“BE A MILLIONAIRE OF KINDNESS, NOT CASH” — is one of the short slogans pinged to users mobiles when they download the new self-improvement app, 365 Positivity. But what does it really mean to be a millionaire today? For many of them, being rich provides an opportunity to be philanthropic, giving away large amounts of money to good causes. Bill Gates, Michael Bloomberg and Warren Buffett are amongst today’s most high profile examples.

SHORT CASH, LONG KINDNESS
But, back in 71BC, when Spartacus, the famous Thracian gladiator slave, inspired a revolt against the mighty Roman empire, his budget was zero. In other words, some of the most powerful achievers of all time had no money — think Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela, to name but a few. None of them were millionaires, and yet they achieved more than many millionaires have done in their lifetimes. The old adage, “money is power” is not true. Fearlessness is power; determination is power; the willingness to do, to act, is power.

RICHES OF KINDNESS
From this perspective, none of us is “poor”. In fact, many of us have forgotten how rich we really are. If we so wish, we can all be millionaires — of kindness, compassion, love and action. For the individual, this can manifest either within one’s personal commitment to other individuals, or else their actions can sprout like seeds, multiplying and galvanising millions into action, as Gandhi and Dr Martin Luther King did in their time. “One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen, can change the world,” said Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani schoolgirl shot in 2012 by the Taliban for supporting female education.

NEW KINDNESS SLOGANS & QUOTES
The kindness slogan, “Be A Millionaire Of Kindness, Not Cash”, from the app 365 Positivity, was inspired by this ideal. Its shortened version, “Kindness, Not Cash” could form a catchy slogan for people around the world to recite and live by. One million acts of kindness will have an infinitely greater impact on our world than one million pounds in cash. As more and more of us awaken to this learning every day, the world slowly but surely changes for the better.
